Work: Nave Ceiling

Thomas Binks painted the ceiling of the nave during the restoration work carried out, under Francis Lockwood, at Holy Trinity Church in 1845 and it was cleaned and restored in 1972-3.

Binks was the son of George and Ann Binks of Hull and was apprenticed to William Meggitt, at George Yard, with whom he studied both art and decorative painting, and became one of Hull’s most significant marine artists.

Binks married Maria Helmes on 13 May 1822 at Hollym and they had four children. Maria died in 1834 and twelve years later Thomas married Mary Elmer at Welton on 9 December 1846.
