Summary

Emma de Ravenser was the wife of Robert de Selby, a wealthy wool-merchant, who traded with the Low Countries. Robert was Mayor of Hull several times and died in 1390. Together with Emma's brother, Richard de Ravenser, Archdeacon of Lincoln, they founded a 'hospital' (almshouse) for poor people. The people who lived there were expected to pray for the souls of the founders. Selby and Ravenser's Hospital was where Trinity Market now stands, on the North side of the Minster.
