Wall Tablet - Mary Wilkinson

Catalogue ID: 74
NADFAS ID: 1078

Description

Unmounted oval wall tablet in black slate, commemorating Mary, wife of Rev. John Wilkinson. Mary Ward (1683-1712), of Kelfield, Stillingfleet, had married John Wilkinson (1681-1716) at Ryther on 27 October 1709. A graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, he was ordained in 1700 and srved as Curate in Ryther (1701-05), then at Stillingfleet (1705-08) and Rector at Esrick (1708-15). He was appointed assistant preacher at Holy Trinity in 1711. Mary died in what we would now reckon as 1712 (the year started on Lady Day). John served briefly as vicar of Holy Trinity from April 1715 until his own death in January 1716.

The incised inscription is in a mixture of script and Roman Caps. and 1/c. filled in white.
