Floor Slab – Charles & Elizabeth Pool
Description
Dark stone slab with inscription within linear border, commemorating Charles Pool (c 1677-1736), former Royal Navy captain and Justice of the Peace, and his wife Elizabeth (née Mason, d. 1755), sister of Holy Trinity's vicar Rev. William Mason and grand-daughter of 2 former Mayors, Robert Mason and Anthony Lambert. Charles's year of death is given incorrectly as 1737: a "slip of the chisel", as he was buried on 2 January 1737, having died on 30 December 1736.

Poor condition: chipped at edges and pitted, with loss of some white composition filling in text and wear to text especially at bottom. Gets used to rest cleaning materials on, including damp mops.
