Description

A rectangular floor slab, with inscription in incised Roman capitals and lower case to Lucy Rogers (née Roper; 1607-65), daughter of former Mayor Lancelot Roper, wife of John Rogers I (Mayor in 1652) and mother of 17 children. To this has been added her great-grand-daughter Lucy (1704-46), daughter of Nathaniel Rogers, MP.

HERE LIETH THE BODY OF Mrs LUCY ROGERS/DAUGHTER TO Mr LANCELOT ROPER/ ALDERMAN AND TWICE MAYOR OF KINGSTON/ UPON HULL LATE WIFE TO Mr JOHN ROGERS/OF THE SAME TOWNE MARCHANT BY WHOM/SHE HAD 17 CHILDREN WITH WHOM SHE/LIVED A PIOUS LIFE 37 YEARS AND DIED/IN THE FAITH OF CHRIST FEBRUARY THE 15/ANNO ÆTATIS 58 ET SALUTIS 1665

Here also lieth interred the Body/ of Mrs Lucy Rogers Daughter of/Nathaniel Rogers Esq who/Departed this Life the 14th day/of March 1746 Aged 42.
