Wall Plaque - John William Helmsing
Description
Rectangular brass plate mounted on wood and fixed to the wall. Inscription in Lombardic versals, with caps.·coloured red, and lower case, black. Lettering incised on brass plate and surrounded by black border. It commemorates John William Helmsing, Trustee of the Church.
John William’s parents Frederick and Alida Agnes were born in Russia – his father was a Commission Merchant. In 1851, the family lived at 12, Lansdowne Terrace, Sculcoates Parish. He became a Forwarding and Insurance Commission Agent, in 1901 living in a house called St Albans at Pearson Park with his wife and family. They had previously lived for a time in Beverley.

for fifty-five years a greatly respected Merchant of this City
and for some years one of the Trustees of this Church,
who passed away on 7th November 1928 aged 85 years.
His body lies in Southborough Cemetery, Kent.
